Coffee Beans For a Life
– Mein Überleben in Kolbuszowa /
Coffee Beans For a Life
by Helga Hirsch, Germany 2004 |
| Jury
award justification :
This film describes the journey of an elderly Polish-American Jew
who travels back to his home town where he is faced with the shadows
of his history. The film succeeds in capturing a unique moment of
confrontation between him and the Polish people.
Even if we think that this is a well-known topic, this film tells
us a very complex new story.

Vater und Feind / Father and
enemy
by Susanne Jäger, Germany 2005 |
Jury award justification
:
By reconstructing a family drama the film reflects the political tragedy
of divided Germany.
The film follows the different steps of a teenager’s struggle
for freedom. This way the filmmaker points out the bitter price the
main character had to pay for achieving this dream. |

Wir
leben im 21. Jahrhundert / We are living in the 21st century
by Claudia Indenhock, Germany 2004 |
Jury award
justification :
Although this award is dedicated to an Eastern European film the jury
decided to give it to the documentary We live in the 21st century,
because is deals with issues that are extremely relevant in a global
European context. The film observes the situation of teenagers who
loose their way, because they do not fit into any educational structure.
It succeeds in revealing their personal potential and provokes a lot
of questions for its audience. |

Monotone, mon automne? –
Ageing, Not Greying
by Marie-Jeanne Urech, Switzerland 2004 |
Jury award justification
:
The „Findling“ jury awards its prize to the film Ageing,
Not Greying. The eternal theme of “growing old without becoming
grey”, dealt with masterfully and with affection and humour
in the film “Harold and Maude”, is given a documentary
treatment in the film by Marie-Jeanne Urech. With her sensitive direction
and camera work she has been able – despite the shortness of
the film – to present her protagonists in a beguiling manner,
which is bound to touch and move the audience. |
