When Florian Kunert was visiting the Kaledupa Island in the Malay Archipelago, one of the first things he learnt from the Bajo sea nomads, most of which have settled in houses on stilts today, was the legend of the Octopus. The locals believe that every newborn has a twin brother in the form of an octopus who becomes their life-long companion. Rituals are carried out to appease the brother in the water and prevent misfortunes. When dishonour occurs, Jakarta feels the apocalyptic revenge of the octopus brother.
