“The Colour Of Longing” begins with Layla who wants to have a butterfly tattooed on her skin. She talks about her dreams big and small, which for her will probably never come true. Layla is a Muslim woman living in Doha, Qatar - a surreal city between the desert and the sea that exudes wealth and creates happiness in the form of shopping malls. Cities and landscapes carry the yearnings of their inhabitants. This “longing” drives us through life: we yearn for love, recognition, freedom and a place to call home. But often, as soon as we arrive somewhere, we long for things back home, or, elsewhere. Evocative and emotional, this film tells eight stories from five countries about the feeling of ‘home’. We see the power of a dance from Cape Verde in a „problem area“ of Lisbon; meet homeless people in Osaka and a poet who gives them a voice; then a diver in Mexico who loves the sea, and a young musician from Munich who despairs at the state of the world.
