Jury's statement: The main character of this film is a wild animal, a she-wolf. She is equipped with a transmitter for scientific purposes and her paths are tracked. In this way, Naya becomes a public figure, and the center of a media spectacle. In this way, the film confronts the viewer with mankind’s disturbed relationship with nature and thus with himself. Hundreds of images from surveillance cameras are assembled as "found footage" into an idiosyncratic, but very coherent and at the same time exciting work. The result poses the question of the future of man in the face of an unquenchable addiction to control to the life of wild animals. In this way it says more about our human behavior than that of wolves, and in a subtle way asks what we expect from our future in the face of total control.
Statment der Jury: Die Hauptfigur dieses Filmes ist ein wildes Tier, eine Wölfin. Sie wird aus wissenschaftlichen Zwecken mit einem Sender ausgestattet und ihre Wege werden verfolgt. Naya wird auf diese Weise zu einer öffentlichen Figur, und zum Zentrum eines Medienspektakels. Der Film konfrontiert den Zuschauer auf diese Weise mit dem gestörten Verhältnis des Menschen zur Natur und damit zu sich selbst. Hunderte von Bildern aus Überwachungskameras werden als „found footage“ zu einem eigenwilligen, aber sehr stimmigen und auch spannenden Werk montiert. Das Ergebnis stellt die Frage nach der Zukunft des Menschen angesichts von einer nicht zu stillenden Sucht nach Kontrolle bis hin dem Leben von wilden Tieren. Es sagt auf diese Weise mehr über unser menschliches Verhalten, als das von Wölfen aus, und stellt auf hintergründige Weise die Frage was wir von unserer Zukunft angesichts einer totalen Kontrolle erwarten.
Jury's statement: The main characters in this film is a group of men who celebrate a party with Elvis Presley. They eat, drink, laugh and above all: they sing. Karaoke songs from the repertoire of the King of Rock n Roll. Without commentary or interview questions, the film succeeds in creating a forceful closeness to the protagonists with the help of simple but very concise camera work alone, allowing the viewer to share in their loneliness and create a feeling of sympathy. At the same time, the montage takes a lot of time to fathom the men's feelings and to confront them.
Statement der Jury: Die Hauptfiguren in diesem Film ist eine Gruppe von Männer, die eine Party mit Elvis Presley feiern. Sie essen, trinken, lachen und vor allem: sie singen. Karaoke Lieder aus dem Repertoire des King of Rock n Roll. Ohne Kommentar und ohne Interviewfragen gelingt es dem Film, allein mit Hilfe einer einfachen, aber sehr prägnanten Kameraarbeit eine eindringliche Nähe zu den Protagonisten herzustellen, und den Zuschauer so an ihrer Einsamkeit teilhaben zu lassen und ein Gefühl von Symphathie entstehen zu lassen. Dabei lässt sich die Montage viel Zeit, die Gefühle der Männer zu ergründen und sich ihnen zu stellen.
Jury's statement: »Running away is a shitty idea« (quote from the film) But how else do you behave when your future is at risk? The young protagonist struggles with this. Do I have the responsibility or do I leave it to others? The directors approach this topic with strong contrasts and a discreet but powerful use of color.
Statement der Jury: »Das mit dem Abhauen ist ne Scheißidee« (Zitat aus dem Film) Aber wie verhält man sich sonst, wenn die Zukunft gefährdet ist? Damit hadert die junge Protagonistin. Habe ich die Verantwortung oder überlasse ich sie anderen? Die Regisseur*innen nähern sich dieser Thematik mit starken Kontrasten und einem dezenten, aber kraftvollen Farbeinsatz.
