These five films from the Clermont-Ferrand ISFF Lab competition show the diverse possibilities of contemporary cinematic storytelling in short films. They move from the orally transmitted stories of Dieu est timide to the post-apocalyptic insect world of Club Bunker, where humans and dialogue have disappeared; from the memories of lost LGBTQI+ friends and family members in I Want My People to Be Remembered to the AI-generated memories of an imaginary friend in Souvenirs d'un ami, and to the animated reconstruction of police violence based on the victim's testimony in 67 Millisecondes.
Content warning: Suicide, police violence • Recommended for ages 16+
Curated by: Lucas Brunier-Mestas and Fanny Dauny (Clermont-Ferrand ISFF Lab)
Guests: Fanny Dauny (Clermont-Ferrand ISFF), the filmmakers, Catherine Lebaupin, a teacher of film analysis, film history, and screenwriting for students aged 16–18 in Nevers—the filming location for Alain Resnais' Hiroshima mon amour—and members of L'ACNE Nevers, a film culture association.
